Hey, anyone know of any great journalism schools out there? I'm thinking of taking up journalism in college, but I'm not sure which Universities I should target.
There are certainly prestigious institutions that are known for their strong journalism programs. Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications is particularly well-regarded. It's a comprehensive program where you get training in writing, reporting, and various forms of media.
Additionally, the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri is famous for its "Missouri Method," which provides hands-on training in real-world news media and advertising agencies.
Columbia University is another top choice, though its journalism program is for grad students, but undergraduates can still take courses at the journalism school.
The Newhouse School at Syracuse University is also an excellent choice, with its comprehensive suite of majors including broadcast and digital journalism, newspaper and online journalism, and magazine, news and digital journalism.
University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism is another one to consider. It offers a BA in Journalism with the potential for combined study in an area of interest.
Lastly, the University of Maryland's Merrill College of Journalism is known for its Capital News Service, where students cover news in the state capital of Annapolis and in Washington, D.C.
Remember to consider factors like location, size of the school, cost, and opportunities for internships or practicum experiences, not just the reputation of the program. It can also be beneficial to reach out to current students or alumni to get a sense of their experience at the school.
