Do Middle School Grades Affect College Admission Chances?

Hey guys, so I've been hearing different things about whether or not middle school grades actually matter for college admissions. I mean, I know high school grades are super important, but does anyone know if colleges also look at our grades from middle school? I kinda slacked off a bit in 7th and 8th grade, so just wondering if this might come back to haunt me. Thanks!

Generally, middle school grades do not directly impact college admissions. Most colleges, particularly those in the United States, primarily consider your high school transcript, which includes your grades from 9th to 12th grade. They also look at other factors like your standardized test scores (if the college isn't test-blind), your essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities. While middle school grades often don't appear on your high school transcript, your performance in middle school can indirectly impact your high school preparation. For instance, your middle school grades may determine your placement in certain classes in high school.

However, it's important not to worry if your middle school grades were not perfect. Many students find that they mature and become more academically motivated in high school. Just focus on doing your best from this point forward! Remember, each student's path is different, and there's always room for growth and improvement. And if you need guidance or help building good study habits, don't hesitate to reach out to your teachers and counselors— they're there to support you.
