Tackling the Toughest Degrees

Out of curiosity, anyone know what the hardest bachelor degrees to earn are? Are there any degrees in particular that colleges view as particularly rigorous or impressive?

In general, the "difficulty" of a degree can depend on many factors, including individual aptitudes and academic strengths, the rigor and quality of the school's program, and the time and effort required for associated coursework, study, and labs. However, some bachelor's degrees tend to be viewed as rigorous due to their heavy workload and complex subject matter.

Often, degrees in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) are considered quite challenging. These fields often require a strong foundation in complex scientific and mathematical concepts, and they may involve challenging laboratory work, group projects, and intensive assignments. Majors like Physics, Biochemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Biochemistry tend to be noted for their rigorous coursework.

Degrees in health-related fields such as Nursing and Pre-Med studies can also be rigorous. These fields often involve a mix of demanding coursework, lab work, clinical placements, and advanced science classes.

Furthermore, some humanities and social sciences majors can require significant research, critical thinking, analytical writing and reading, making them quite rigorous in a different way. For example, majors like Philosophy, History, and Economics may need heavy analysis and sophisticated argumentation skills.

It's also worthy to note that the perceived difficulty of a degree could depend a lot on the specific curricula and requirements of individual colleges. For example, a Nursing degree from a college that has an extensive clinical program might be considered more rigorous than the same degree from a school with less emphasis on hands-on training.

In the end, colleges are likely to be more impressed by the effort and commitment you put into your studies, rather than just the perceived level of difficulty associated with your major. Evidence of scholarly engagement, such as independent research, internships, presentation at conferences, or honors and awards, can all help make a positive impression.
