Seeking Argumentative Essay Samples

Hello everyone, I've been searching for well-written argumentative essay samples I can use as reference material for practicing my writing. Anyone knows where I can find some? Or could share any tips in structuring one?

When structuring an argumentative essay, you can follow a pretty standard structure, which consists of an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

1. Introduction: Start with a hook to grab the reader's attention. This could be a relevant quote, interesting factoid, or compelling statistic. Then introduce your topic and provide background on the issue at hand. Finally, end the introduction with a clear and succinct thesis statement, which outlines your stance on the issue.

2. Body Paragraphs: Each body paragraph should cover a single point or argument supporting your thesis. Begin the paragraph with a clear topic sentence that states the point of the paragraph. Next, provide evidence from credible sources to support your argument. Evidence could range from research findings to expert quotes, examples, analogies, etc. After presenting your evidence, explain how and why this evidence supports your thesis: this is important as it connects your evidence to your argument and clarifies your thinking for the reader.

3. Counterargument: It's recommended that you have a paragraph (or two) acknowledging the counterargument or the arguments that oppose your thesis. Identify the opposing points and refute them with logical reasoning or evidence. This not only shows that you've thought through multiple perspectives but also strengthens your credibility and fairness in arguing your point.

4. Conclusion: Restate your thesis and summarise the main points or arguments you've presented in support of your thesis. You can also leave the reader with a final thought or question to continue the conversation beyond your essay.

For actual argumentative essay samples, the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) and the CollegeVine Essay Guides are great resources. Both provide examples of argumentative essays so students can examine both content and formatting practices. However, please, always remember that these are simply samples and each person's writing style and perspective are unique. Thus, while it's helpful to learn from examples, it's most beneficial to develop and refine your own writing voice and style. Happy writing!
