College dorms in the US: which ones are the best?

Hey guys, I'm just curious about your experiences or opinions on the best dorms in US colleges. What factors made them stand out? Was it just about comfort, or were there things like social activities, architecture, or even location that played a big part?

The "best" dorm can be quite subjective and often depends on personal preferences. However, there are some universities recognized for exceptional dormitory accommodations due to factors such as comfort, amenities, location, social vibe, and architectural appeal.

Washington University in St. Louis is one of them, with dorms that more closely resemble apartments than traditional dorm rooms. Many WashU dorms have their own on-site mini kitchens, coffee shops, and study spaces, and the campus dining services are consistently highly rated.

Another notable mention is the University of Chicago, where dorms are actually split into "houses" of about 100 students each, which creates a small, close-knit community and fosters strong relationships. The facilities themselves are striking, like the new Campus North Residential Commons, which is a huge architectural feat and has loads of natural light and common spaces.

Scripps College in California is known for its beautiful Mediterranean-inspired architecture and lush gardens. The dorm rooms are spacious and the buildings themselves have a great amount of character.

MIT's Simmons Hall is often described as living in a piece of modern art due to its unique, sponge-like exterior. Its features include many lounges, study spaces, music rooms, and an onsite dining hall.

The social vibe is a big part of dorm life too. Brown University dorms stand out for their exciting social scene and diverse range of housing options – from smaller, tight-knit residential communities to larger, bustling dorms.

Arguably the country's most luxurious dorms could be University of North Florida's Osprey Fountains, with a swimming pool, sand volleyball courts, game rooms, and even a fitness center.

Remember, these are just a few examples. The "best" dorms really depend on individual preferences, lifestyle, and what you hope to get out of your college residential experience. Always take a virtual tour if you can and read reviews from current and former students.
