Dropping Out Scenarios

Just curious, what grade can most students be seen dropping out of high school? I'm asking from an academic and sociological perspective, to understand the phenomenon better. Please, anyone has any insights?

High school dropout rates are a complex issue and can be influenced by myriad factors, often unique to each individual. However, from an academic and sociological standpoint, the most common grade when students drop out of high school is typically in the sophomore or junior year (10th or 11th grade).

Students who complete their freshman year of high school have already demonstrated resilience and the ability to adapt, so a dropout is less likely at that stage. Yet, as they progress to sophomore and junior years, the academic pressure can often increase significantly due to preparation for standardized tests, college applications, or Advanced Placement courses.

Additionally, struggles with engagement and finding relevance in school can also contribute to dropout rates, as can external pressures such as personal or family issues. When school is viewed as not beneficial for their future, students might feel more inclined to leave. Also, some students may drop out because they feel alienated or do not find the school environment supportive or inclusive.

The amalgamation of these factors usually leads to a peak in dropout rates in the 10th and 11th grades. It's also important to note that these averages can differ depending on the demographic and socioeconomic factors at play in the different regions.
