High School Writing Contests?

I enjoy creative writing and I've been looking for some contests to enter. Does anyone know of any worthwhile writing contests for high schoolers?

Sure, I can suggest a few writing contests that are popular among high school students.

1. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: This is one of the most recognized contests and offers wide-ranging categories from poetry to novel writing. You could win scholarships and have your work exhibited or published, which is a wonderful opportunity.

2. YoungArts' National Arts Competition: YoungArts offers a competition in various categories, including writing. Winners may receive cash awards and have the chance to participate in master classes with accomplished artists.

3. The New York Times Student Editorial Contest: If you're interested in journalism or opinion writing, this contest is a fantastic opportunity. Students must write a concise editorial of 450 words or less on a topic of their choosing.

4. The Princeton University Poetry Contest for High School Students: This contest recognizes outstanding work in poetry. First place wins $500, second place $250, and third place $100.

Remember, while winning awards can certainly enhance your resumé, the process and experience you gain from participating in these contests is even more valuable. It can help you grow as a writer, express your thoughts and ideas, and give you a larger sense of the writing community. Happy writing!
