Upcoming AP Lang Exam Format?

Hey everyone, I'm curating my study plan for the AP Lang exam. Considering the exam keeps updating, I'm unsure about the current rubric. Do you guys know if there's been any change in the AP Lang rubric recently? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hello! As part of your study plan for the AP Language and Composition exam, it's certainly crucial to stay updated about the rubric and exam format. To the best of my understanding, there hasn't been any significant change to the AP Lang exam format recently.

The exam remains composed of two main sections, both of which account for 50% of your score:

1. Multiple Choice: This section tests your ability to read critically. You will be provided with several passages, and will need to answer around 45 questions in 60 minutes. The critical reading section is composed of passages accompanied by questions to gauge your understanding and interpretation.

2. Free Response: In this section, you will write three essays within 2 hours and 15 minutes. Each essay is a different type: synthesis, argumentative, and analysis of a nonfiction piece. It's expected that you'll spend around 15 minutes reading/planning and then 40 minutes writing each essay.

For the Free Response section, AP uses a 6-point rubric. With 1 low and 6 high, the rubric focuses on the writer's ability to articulate arguments, provide supporting evidence, utilize language effectively, and employ sophisticated reasoning.

Important to note, a factor determining your score is the complexity of your argument, the depth of your analysis, and the extent you realize the essay's purpose.

Hope this helped! Remember, practicing and reviewing previous exam questions can be the most helpful way to understand the exam and the rubric used for grading. Good luck with your study plan!
