Out-of-State Acceptance for University of Tennessee?

Hello! I'm from California and I've been considering the University of Tennessee. Does anyone know what their acceptance rate is like for out-of-state students? Is it a lot harder for us to get in?

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville doesn't officially publish acceptance rates broken down by in-state and out-of-state students. However, a general understanding is that public universities like the UTK do receive a significant portion of their funding from the state, and for this reason, they may prioritize in-state students. That said, UTK is known to welcome a sizable number of out-of-state students too.

As of the most recent data, the acceptance rate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, hovers around 78% overall. This data does not differentiate between in-state and out-of-state, but it gives a sense of the competitiveness of the school.

Keep in mind that for out-of-state students, the tuition rate will be higher than for in-state students. However, this difference can, to an extent, be offset with scholarships and financial aid.

Also, an important factor to remember, particularly if you're out-of-state, is that you'll need to make a compelling case in your application about why UTK is a good fit for you. More specifically, consider factors like specific academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, or culture that draw you to UTK over other colleges.

Remember to continue working hard on your grades, essays, and extracurriculars. All these factors matter in college admissions, and they can boost your chances regardless of your residency status. Good luck!
