Summer Law Internships for NYC HS Students

I'm a HS junior in NYC with an interest in law and I'd like to get some related experience this summer. Does anyone know of any firms, nonprofits, etc., in the city that offer internships specifically for high school students?

There are certainly some opportunities aimed at NYC high school students interested in law. One program that stands out is the Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program. It's a competitive, paid internship that places diverse NYC public high school students with legal employers for the summer. Interns also participate in weekly development workshops, tours of law firms, and trips to law schools.

Another is the Sonia & Celina Sotomayor Judicial Internship Program. This program also aims for diverse public high school students who are interested in law, providing them with judicial internships and participation in judicial proceedings and activities.

Another great option is the Legal Outreach Summer Law Institute. After a competitive application process, students are enrolled in a five-week Criminal Trial Advocacy program. Besides coursework, students visit a law firm each Tuesday, conduct legal research, and put their knowledge to the test on Fridays in a catered luncheon at the firm.

Just note that these programs are competitive and often require an application process, so start preparing early. Always make sure to check the eligibility requirements and application deadlines, as each program varies. And a small tip: your law-related extracurricular activities and interest in furthering your knowledge in the field can certainly give your application a boost. Good luck!
