Cal Poly's acceptance rate

My dream school is Cal Poly. I’m curious about how competitive it’s getting these days. Any idea about its acceptance rate for the coming year?

The acceptance rate for Cal Poly, officially known as California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, tends to fluctuate yearly, largely due to the number of total applicants and the level of applicant competitiveness. For the academic year 2023-2024, the acceptance rate was approximately 29%, meaning the school is quite selective. Do remember that acceptance rates can vary by program or major, as some majors at the university are more competitive than others.

Given the competitive nature of Cal Poly admissions, it's important to not only meet but exceed their admissions requirements, which includes strong academic performance (e.g. high GPA, rigorous course load) and impactful extracurricular activities. Keep in mind that while Cal Poly, like other Cal State schools, is test-blind for the 2024-2025 application cycle, meaning they do not consider SAT or ACT scores. So, they'll be looking at other aspects of your application even more carefully.

It's always a good idea to apply to a mix of reach, target, and safety schools to ensure you have options. Besides, universities tend to look for different qualities in students, so don't lose heart if the acceptance rate seems daunting. Good luck with your applications!
