Looking for NYC Summer Internships for High School Students

I'm a high school junior in NYC and I'm really interested in finding an internship for the upcoming summer. I want to gain real-world experience that could also look impressive in my college applications. Could anyone share their experiences or resources? Any field is fine, I'm open to exploring different areas. Thanks in advance!

There are many opportunities in NYC for high school students to gain professional experience! Having an internship can definitely enhance your college applications, showcasing your dedication, initiative, and real-world knowledge.

New York City's Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) hosts a Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) which offers citywide summer employment to residents ages 14-24. SYEP provides participating youth the opportunity to gain early work experiences and assists them in identifying their career interests.

If you're interested in the STEM field, high school students have participated in internships at Research Science Institute (RSI), which provides students the chance to conduct original, cutting-edge research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals and corporate research facilities. STEM internships often entail conducting research and presenting findings, which can be a plus!

For business or finance-related internships, there are organizations like GenZ Girl Gang that provide summer interships focusing on business operations and management. There's also the Scholastic's Corporate Finance Summer Internship geared towards high school students interested in the financial aspects of a publishing company.

Given the vast nature of opportunities in NYC, I recommend reaching out to your high school guidance counselor or career advisor. They might have partnerships with employers who provide internships or job shadows for high school students.

Remember, applying for internships can be competitive. Target the ones that align with your interests and strengths, and start early! Your dedication, timing, and persistence would definitely pay off. Good luck with your search!
