Hi all, I applied to UC San Diego recently and I'm a bit stressed. I've heard that some applicants receive a supplemental questionnaire to complete. What is this based on? Should I be worried if I don't receive one? Any insights would be great!
It's understandable that the UC San Diego application process can feel a bit overwhelming. To reduce some of your concerns, it's important to know that UCSD's use of the supplemental questionnaire is not a regular process for all applicants.
UCSD uses these questionnaires to ask for additional information when they want to know more about a candidate's academic record, personal experiences, or extracurricular activities to make a more informed admission decision. This could include details about how a student’s educational environment was affected by COVID-19, the nature and extent of their out-of-classroom enrichment experiences, or to aid in contextually reviewing a student's academic preparation.
This does not denote that the admission committee has decided one way or the other about your application. It simply means they want to gather more information to make the best decision possible. That said, not all applicants receive this questionnaire, so there's no cause for concern if you don't receive one.
Receiving a supplemental questionnaire has no bearing on the likelihood of acceptance, so don't stress about it. Instead, continue to focus on your current studies and any other applications you may be working on.
