Animation Programs at US Colleges?

I've been working on digital animation all throughout high school and really want to continue in college. I'm having a hard time finding colleges with strong animation programs though. Does anyone have recommendations, or any experiences you could share?

Absolutely, I'm glad to see your passion for digital animation and dedication to continuing it in college. If you're looking for top-notch programs in the US, I can recommend several institutions known for their strong animation concentrations:

1. California Institute of the Arts (CalArts): Known for its prestigious animation program, CalArts alumni have gone on to influence many iconic works in the field, including numerous Disney and Pixar films.

2. University of Southern California (USC): Offers a Bachelor of Arts in Animation & Digital Arts where students are exposed to 2D and 3D animation, 3D modeling, animation writing, and more.

3. Ringling College of Art and Design: Their Computer Animation program is very comprehensive and students have the opportunity to create their own animated shorts.

4. Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD): Has a strong Animation department offering both BA and BFA programs. Their academic approach equips students with a thorough understanding of contemporary industry practices and techniques.

5. Rhode Island School of Design (RISD): Offers a BFA in Film/Animation/Video that allows students to experiment in a variety of areas, including animation.

Remember, it's not just about ranking or prestige of the program. Also consider the coursework, skill development, faculty expertise, and opportunities for internships and networking. Gaining knowledge and experience in your specific field is more important. Take a deeper look at these programs and see which ones align best with your career goals and personal interests. Good luck!
