How can PSAT Score be Converted to SAT Equivalent?

I've heard there's a way to compare PSAT scores to SAT ones, which I think could provide some insight into how I might perform on the SAT, based on my PSAT performance. Has anyone here done that, or can someone guide me on how to make this conversion?

Yes, there is a rough way to convert PSAT scores to SAT equivalents. Keep in mind that the PSAT is designed to be slightly easier than the SAT, and the maximum score on the PSAT is 1520, while on the SAT it's 1600.

To convert a PSAT score to an approximate SAT score, one common method is to simply add about 100 to your PSAT score. This method reflects the approximate difficulty difference between both exams. For instance, a 1230 on the PSAT would roughly correspond to an 1330 on the SAT.

Remember that this conversion is just an estimate and the actual score can change based on several factors including how well you prepare for the SAT, the level of difficulty of the test on the day you take it, and even how you're feeling on test day. The SAT also covers some content that is not tested on the PSAT, particularly in Math.

It’s also worth noting that College Board's Bluebook™ App offers an official way to understand how PSAT scores relate to the SAT.

Ultimately, if you're aiming for a specific SAT score, use your PSAT score as a starting point and then focus on practicing and studying the areas you find challenging. This will be your best strategy for SAT success.
