Internships in NYC for High School Students?

I'm a junior living in NYC and I've been really wanting to explore career paths before applying to college. Can anyone recommend any internships in the city that accept high school students?

Certainly, there are several internships and work-study programs available to high school students in NYC across a variety of fields. This can really help you gain some real-world experience and a better understanding of what you might like to study or pursue as a career after graduation.

1. New York Historical Society Student Historian Internship: This paid internship takes a deep dive into American history and art. Interns work with museum staff to conduct research, and assist in museum education programs.

2. The American Museum of Natural History: AMNH hosts a variety of internship programs for high school students interested in the sciences. From anthropology to astrophysics, there's a lot to explore!

3. Girls Who Code: This is an excellent opportunity for female students interested in tech. They have a seven-week summer immersion program that introduces participants to computer science.

4. NYC Department of Youth & Community Development: DYCD oversees a range of programs in NYC, including the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), which provides citywide summer employment opportunities to youth aged 14-24.

5. Sadie Nash Leadership Project: This program primarily aims to promote leadership and activism among young women. They offer summer and after-school programs.

Remember, many of these programs can be competitive, so it's important to apply early and to more than one program to increase your chances. Good luck in your search!
