What types of DPT programs do HBCUs offer?

I'm super interested in pursuing a degree in physical therapy and I've always wanted to study at an HBCU. What are the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs like there? Is there anyone here who’s gone through one or is currently enrolled I could chat with?

Hey there! That's fantastic to hear you're aiming for a degree in physical therapy and looking to do it at an HBCU – they have a proud tradition of nurturing brilliant minds. My child is not in a DPT program, but I have a friend whose daughter went through one at Howard University. She had an incredibly positive experience, with a curriculum that was both rigorous and hands-on. From what I heard, the faculty were very supportive and dedicated to the students' success.

Most HBCUs with DPT programs, such as Hampton University and Florida A&M University, are fully accredited and focus on evidence-based practice, health promotion, and disease prevention, among other key areas of physical therapy. It might be a good idea to contact the programs directly – they can provide detailed information and possibly connect you with current students or alumni. I've always found that reaching out personally can give you a real feel for what to expect from a program. Best of luck on your journey!
