UC Berkeley Admissions Rate: What's the Real Deal?

I've been googling around but I'm getting a few different numbers for UC Berkeley's admission rate. Wondering if anybody out there has a reliable idea of what exactly the acceptance rate is these days? If it varies by major or program that info would be helpful too.

UC Berkeley's acceptance rates may vary slightly depending on the source and the year. As one of the heavily applied-to institutions, acceptance rates can be fairly low. For instance, for the 2024-2025 admissions cycle, UC Berkeley's acceptance rate was around 11%.

However, do keep in mind that this acceptance rate doesn't tell the full story. UC Berkeley, like many universities, employs a holistic admissions approach, evaluating not just grades and test scores, but also your essays, extracurricular activities, and other aspects of your application to gain a fuller understanding of you as a person and student.

The acceptance rate can also fluctuate based on the major you intend to pursue. Some departments, like Computer Science or Engineering, may have a more competitive acceptance rate due to the high volume of applications. Unfortunately, UC Berkeley doesn't officially disclose acceptance rates by majors.

To increase your chances, make sure your application highlights your academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and personal qualities. A strong essay that showcases your passion for your intended major could make a difference, as could showing strong potential and commitment through relevant extracurriculars. Good luck with your application!
