STEM Summer Programs for High School Students - Suggestions?

I'm really interested in STEM and want to use my summer break to gain some more experience in the field. I'm currently looking into summer programs that cater specifically to high school students. Can anyone suggest some quality STEM summer programs I should check out?

There are several notable STEM summer programs for high school students available. Make sure to start the application process early as these programs can be very competitive.

1. MIT Online Science, Technology, and Engineering Community (MOSTEC): This free, online program gives students the chance to engage in various academic activities in the STEM field while interacting with a diverse group of peers.

2. Hopkins Engineering Innovations by Johns Hopkins University: This program provides high schoolers the opportunity to engage with real-life engineering projects. You'll also earn undergraduate credit after the program.

3. COSMOS (California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science): This four-week residential program for California-resident students at University of California campuses offers nine distinct STEM clusters to choose from.

4. Boston University - Research Internship in Science & Engineering (RISE): This program provides research opportunities to students with a strong background in math and science.

5. Summer Science Program (SSP): This is one of the oldest summer programs focusing on astrophysics and biochemistry.

6. Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP): Offers paid summer internships to high school students to work with Department of Navy scientists and engineers.

Lastly, consider also seeking opportunities in your local community, like internships or research positions in local universities, companies, or nonprofits.

Note that due to the influence of the ongoing pandemic, some programs may only be offered online. Don't let that hinder you though; virtual programs can be just as enriching. Be sure to verify the format of the programs when you apply.
