Top universities for aerospace engineering

I'm a high school junior really passionate about aerospace engineering and trying to figure out where to apply for college. Does anyone know which universities are considered the best for aerospace engineering? I'd love to hear about schools with strong programs, research opportunities, and any personal experiences you might have.

Here are some universities consistently ranked as top for aerospace engineering programs, each with a unique strength:

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): Known for its innovative curriculum and connections to the industry. Its aero/astro department consistently ranks top in the country, and students can take part in research under the MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives.

2. Stanford University: Well-regarded for its Aerospace Robotics Laboratory and collaboration with the NASA Ames Research Center.

3. California Institute of Technology (Caltech): Small student to professor ratio gives students individual attention and the ability to work closely with leading researchers in the field.

4. University of Michigan - Ann Arbor: Known for balancing theory and practical knowledge through their Aerospace Engineering department.

5. University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign: Offers broad exposure to all areas of aerospace and is known for its well-rounded program.

6. Georgia Institute of Technology: Has a rigorous academic program and offers unique opportunities like the xG external-Gearbox Helicopter Joint Multi-Role (JMR) Technology Demonstrator program.

7. Purdue University: Famous for producing astronauts, including Neil Armstrong. The university's aerospace engineering program focuses on collaborations with government laboratories, industry, and other disciplines at Purdue.

8. University of Texas at Austin: Some of its research areas include applied aerodynamics, flight mechanics and controls, and structural mechanics.

Research these universities more and use additional criteria like location, campus culture, financial aid, and overall fit to refine your list. Speaking to current students and alumni can also provide first-hand insights, most universities facilitate these connections so don't hesitate to reach out to the admissions offices. And remember, while these specific programs are strong, they're within larger schools that are also excellent, so consider the overall appeal of the university as well.
