How hard is it to get into Case Western?

Hey everyone, aspiring engineer here. Recently, Case Western caught my attention. They seem to have a solid program and I'm interested to apply. Can anyone share how selective Case Western is and any tips on what they look for in applicants?

Case Western Reserve University is indeed known for its excellent programs in engineering and the sciences, so it's a great choice for aspiring engineers. The university is quite selective, with the acceptance rate typically hovering around 29%.

The average high school GPA of admitted students at Case Western is around 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. It aligns with Case Western's high standards and its emphasis on academic rigor and the pursuit of knowledge. Also, Case Western has competitive SAT and ACT score ranges: the middle 50% SAT range is roughly 1410-1540, and the ACT range is approximately 32-35. However, keep in mind that the college's test policy might change from year to year, so check for any updates.

In terms of what Case Western looks for in an applicant, a strong academic performance is definitely a priority. They also appreciate the ability to demonstrate ‘intellectual risk-taking’ and creativity, both inside and outside the classroom. They look for students who show a genuine love for learning and are not afraid to pursue ambitious projects or take challenging courses.

Case Western also values applicants who are involved in extracurricular activities. Tier 1 and Tier 2 activities are particularly impressive, such as winning national awards, playing in a state orchestra, being a student body president, or being a top player in a state sport. These activities demonstrate a high level of achievement and leadership, and Case Western looks for students who will bring that same level of dedication and talent to their campus.

Lastly, having a strong personal essay that provides a clear and compelling narrative about your background, experiences, and aspirations can significantly augment your application. Remember to make it personal and unique; try to avoid cliche topics like victories or challenges in sports or the struggle of moving schools.

Good luck with your application!
