Top schools to consider in NYC?

I'm thinking about heading to New York City for college and wondering which schools are considered the top ones there. Of course, there's the big names like NYU and Columbia, but are there other schools that might offer a great academic experience without the insane competition? I’m also curious about what the campus life is like at these schools, seeing as they’re in such a busy city. Any insider tips or personal stories would be awesome!

Sure! You've already mentioned NYU and Columbia which are undoubtedly two of the top ranks in the city. Here are a few more universities in NYC you might want to consider.

- Fordham University: Fordham is recognized for its strong programs in business, social work, and humanities. Its schools of law and business are particularly well-regarded. It offers the traditional campus experience in the heart of NYC, being located in Manhattan but also having a campus in the Bronx.

- The New School: This university is known mostly for its studies in social sciences, arts, and design. If you're considering anything in the fields of design, fashion, or liberal arts, The New School should be on your list.

- City University of New York (CUNY): CUNY has a strong focus on the liberal arts and sciences, and it's also public, making it a more affordable option for many students. It comprises multiple colleges, including Baruch College known for its business program, and Hunter College recognized for its strengths in the health professions.

Remember, "top schools" should align with what suits you personally in terms of academics, student life, and overall culture.

Regarding campus life, each university in NYC has its own unique experience. Schools like NYU and The New School are more integrated with the city, meaning students often branch out for housing, food, and other activities rather than staying confined to a traditional campus. On the other hand, Columbia and Fordham provide more of a classic campus feel in the midst of the urban environment. The city becomes an extension of the campus in a way. Many students enjoy this since it gives them countless opportunities for internships, networking, and cultural experiences.

One thing to note is that being a student in NYC requires a certain level of independence. It's a busy, fast-paced environment and can be a significant shift if you're coming from a quieter, more suburban area. However, that's also the appeal for many students as they value the diversity, vibrancy, and opportunities the city offers.
