What Are My Options for Universities in New Hampshire?

I'm starting to look at universities in New Hampshire as potential options for my college education. I don't know much yet about the state or its universities, but I've heard it's a beautiful place to study. Can anyone tell me about the variety of universities in New Hampshire, what they offer in terms of majors and campus life, and how they rank among each other? If you're familiar with the area or have attended one of these universities, I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

New Hampshire certainly has some wonderful schools to consider, each with their strengths and campus environments.

One of the most well-known would be Dartmouth College. As an Ivy League school, the academics are top-notch, particularly in fields like government, economics, and engineering. It offers a liberal arts curriculum ensuring a broad-based education. Dartmouth is also known for its strong sense of campus community due in part to its isolated setting in the town of Hanover, which fosters a lot of student interaction.

Then we have the University of New Hampshire which is a larger, public institution. UNH is known for fields such as business, engineering, and marine biology. It's in the town of Durham, providing a classic college-town feel.

Saint Anselm College is another well-regarded option. It's a smaller, Catholic liberal arts college in Manchester known for its strong humanities program. Saint Anselm is also home to one of the oldest forensic science programs in the country.

Lastly, there's Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), primarily known for its strong online degree programs. However, it also has a physical campus in Manchester. The offerings are diverse, spanning from business to game design.

In terms of ranking, Dartmouth College often makes it into the top 15 on national university rankings due to its academic rigor and student satisfaction. The University of New Hampshire, Saint Anselm College, and SNHU typically rank lower but offer strong programs and various opportunities in their respective areas of specialty.

When considering colleges, keep in mind the size, location, overall culture, available majors, and your financial situation. There's something to fit most preferences in New Hampshire, from small liberal arts to larger public institutions.

One of the best ways to get a feel for a school, of course, is to visit or at least delve into their websites for campus life info and virtual tours. If you know what you want to major in, that can also help narrow down your choices!
