Questions about BRCC admissions process

Hi everyone! I'm thinking about applying to Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) and I was wondering if anyone could share some insights or tips regarding their admissions process. I'm not entirely sure what they're looking for in applicants in terms of academics and involvement.

If anyone has been through the process recently, how would you describe it? Are there any particular requirements that I should be paying extra attention to? Additionally, I'd love to know if there are any resources or support systems for new students. Appreciate any advice you can give!

Baton Rouge Community College, like many community colleges, has a fairly straightforward admissions process. Most community colleges are open enrollment institutions, which means they accept any high school graduate or GED holder who applies, regardless of grades or test scores.

To define the process a bit, you'll likely start with an online application where you'll fill out basic information, like your contact information, high school history, and what program or major you're interested in. The application itself is free and can be found on the BRCC website.

While BRCC does require high school transcripts or GED scores, these are typically used for course placement more than admission decisions. If you have transcripts from any other colleges you've attended, you'll want to submit those, too. You may be able to get some credit for courses you've already taken.

Another step in the process might involve placement tests. These can help determine your starting level in certain subjects, usually English and Math. However, if you've taken the SAT or ACT, your scores there may suffice for this step.

As for resources for new students, BRCC offers several student services to help you get your academic career off to a productive start. They have academic advisors who can help guide you as you choose your classes, as well as free tutoring services. If you're unsure of your academic path, the BRCC Career Center could be a great resource, as can the Writing and Reading (WRaP) Center for writing assistance.

Lastly, make sure to apply for financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Even as a community college student, you may be eligible for grants, work-study opportunities, and subsidized loans.

BRCC is a great place to begin your higher education journey, and I am confident you'll find their admissions process to be very accessible and welcoming. Remember, the admissions office is there to help, so should you run into any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to them.

Best of luck with your application!
