Is a 1350 on the SAT considered good?

I'm in the process of applying to colleges and recently got my SAT scores back. I scored a 1350, and I'm kind of freaking out a bit. Is this considered a good score? I'm aiming for some of the mid-tier to top-tier schools, and I'm worried that this might not be competitive enough.

I've been doing some research, and I've seen mixed opinions. Some say it's decent while others suggest I retake it. I'm wondering if I should invest more time into prepping and try to bump it up a bit, or if this is sufficient to get into a good college. Would love any advice or personal experiences!

Your current score of 1350 is above the national average, which is around the 1050 mark. That said, what might be considered a "good" score can heavily depend on where you hope to attend college. Mid-tier to top-tier colleges often have a higher average SAT score range, so checking the middle 50% SAT score range for the schools you're aiming for is a useful measure.

To give an example, for universities such as the University of Wisconsin-Madison or the University of Texas at Austin, your score falls within or close to the commonly accepted range. However, for more competitive schools like Ivy League institutions, the average SAT score of admitted students tends to be higher, generally over 1450.

Remember that while test scores are an important component of your application, colleges also place importance on other aspects such as your letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and your personal essay. So, while a higher SAT score might strengthen your application, it is just one part of the bigger picture.

Given your aspirations and if it's logistically possible, it could be beneficial to retake the SAT after some increased preparation to try and improve your score. Simultaneously, make sure you continue to focus on other parts of your application to present a balanced and comprehensive picture of your strengths and achievements.
