Considering colleges in Tennessee – which ones should I check out?

As a junior in high school, I'm exploring different states for college, and Tennessee caught my eye. Aside from Vanderbilt, I'm curious about other colleges or universities in Tennessee that have strong business or engineering programs. Are there schools with a great campus culture and supportive environment? Any recommendations or advice based on personal experiences would be awesome!

Absolutely, Tennessee has several strong universities beyond Vanderbilt. One school to consider is the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. UTK has good programs in both business and engineering and is known for its vibrant campus life and strong athletic spirit. The Haslam College of Business, in particular, has reputable undergraduate programs. The college has an innovative curriculum that blends business theory with practical experience, making it an excellent environment for business students.

Apart from UTK, you could also consider Tennessee Technological University (Tennessee Tech). Located in Cookeville, Tennessee Tech is especially well-regarded for its engineering programs. The university's College of Engineering ranks among the best public engineering colleges in the South, and it offers a wide range of specialized engineering disciplines.

Another university that might pique your interest is Rhodes College, located in Memphis. Though it's not primarily known for business or engineering, it does offer programs in business and boasts of a liberal arts curriculum that fosters a broad base of knowledge. Rhodes has a small student-to-faculty ratio, a lively campus atmosphere, and a great deal of support for students.

Finally, don't overlook Memphis itself as a vibrant city with plenty of opportunities for internships and career connections, especially helpful for business students. Memphis is home to several Fortune 500 companies, which could offer relevant and valuable career opportunities for business majors.

Remember, while a school's programs and prestige are significant, the best fit will also relate to the size, location, social environment, and other factors that align with your personal preferences. Visit the campuses if possible, and reach out to current students or alumni to get a sense of the real experiences at these schools.
