What are the top colleges and universities in Missouri?

Looking ahead, I'm trying to decide which colleges to apply to, and Missouri is on my list of states to explore. I know Mizzou is pretty popular, but I'm curious about other universities or colleges across Missouri that might offer unique opportunities or programs, particularly in journalism or the performing arts. Any tips on the application process or insights into campus life would be super helpful!

You're on the right track with researching colleges in Missouri. It offers a wide array of excellent schools with diverse opportunities.

The University of Missouri (Mizzou) is indeed the state's most well-known university, and it's recognized for its journalism program — it's consistently ranked among the best journalism schools in the country. So your interest in journalism would be well-served there.

For performing arts, you might want to consider Webster University, located in St. Louis. The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster is renowned for nurturing students’ creativity and providing an immersive learning environment.

Another option is Washington University in St. Louis, often referred to as WashU. Although more known for its medical and law programs, WashU has substantial strengths in humanities subjects, including theater and dance.

Saint Louis University (SLU) could also be a good fit for you. It's a private research university with a range of course options.

The application processes to these colleges are pretty straightforward. You would generally need to submit your high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores (unless the school is test-optional), letters of recommendation, and an admissions essay. Given your interests, I suggest highlighting your experiences in journalism and the performing arts in your application materials.

Campus life at these institutions can vary widely. Mizzou, for instance, has a large campus with a bustling student life, which includes Greek life, athletics, and many clubs. Webster, on the other hand, boasts of a tight-knit community and smaller class sizes. SLU and WashU also offer a variety of student organizations, and their locations in St. Louis provide plenty of cultural and recreational opportunities.

Remember, all these schools offer campus tours (both virtual and in-person), which could give you a better sense of what your life might be like there. The best school for you will ultimately depend on your personal preferences, academic goals, and the specific type of college experience you want. Best of luck on your college search!
