Looking into Colleges in Tennessee

As I'm narrowing down my college list, I've been thinking Tennessee might be a good option for me. I'm aware of schools like Vanderbilt and the University of Tennessee, but I wonder if there are other colleges in the state that are less known but just as rewarding.

I'm interested in healthcare programs and also looking for a vibrant campus life. How diverse are the student bodies, and what’s there to do outside of campus? If anyone has personal experiences or additional info about Tennessee schools, I'd really appreciate your insights!

Absolutely, Tennessee is home to several lesser-known but high-quality colleges offering strong healthcare programs and dynamic campus life. For instance, Belmont University in Nashville offers a robust healthcare program with degrees in pharmacy, nursing, and public health, among others. The campus is known for its active student life with over 190 student-led clubs and organizations. As for diversity, around 75% of the students are white, followed by Hispanic (9%), African-American (5%), and Asian (3%).

Then there's Rhodes College in Memphis, another school renowned for its healthcare programs, particularly its pre-med track. It’s located within 2 miles of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, providing many opportunities for internships and volunteering. Rhodes has about 2,000 students, with a pretty balanced gender ratio. The diversity ratio is quite similar to Belmont’s, with the majority of students being white, followed by African-American, Asian, and Hispanic students.

Memphis also hosts the University of Memphis, with programs in healthcare like nursing, public health, and health systems management. It boasts a considerably larger and more diverse student body than both Belmont and Rhodes. Its commuter-centric campus means it's easier to find off-campus activities to do in Memphis, like exploring Beale Street or catching a Grizzlies game.

In terms of extracurricular activities, the state of Tennessee offers a wealth of options. From music festivals in Nashville to outdoor activities in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there's usually something interesting to do.

Of course, each of these universities has its own unique advantages and campus cultures, and it'd be best to visit them virtually or in-person if possible to see which one feels like the best fit for you. Hope this information is helpful!
