Writing Competitions for High School Students in 2024?

I'm trying to explore some writing opportunities this year, and I'd love to enter a competition or two. If anyone knows of any writing competitions available for high school students in 2024, please share!

Are there any contests that are particularly reputable or fun to participate in? I'm interested in both fiction and non-fiction writing, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. It would be awesome to add some accolades to my college applications or just to challenge myself creatively.

Absolutely, there are numerous writing competitions for high school students that you can participate in 2024. They range from fiction to non-fiction and even include poetry and essay categories. Here are a few that I'd recommend:

- The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: Conducted and supervised by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are among the most prestigious competitions for young creatives. In the category of writing, they accept works of fiction, poetry, drama, and more.

- The New York Times Student Editorial Contest: An exciting opportunity, especially if you're interested in journalism or editorial writing. Participants write an editorial on a topic of their choice, and the winning entries get published by The New York Times.

- YoungArts' National Arts Competition: This competition is unique because it offers categories in numerous artistic disciplines, including writing. Winners can earn up to $10,000 and can also participate in a week-long professional development workshop in Miami.

- The Adroit Prizes for Poetry and Prose: Organized by The Adroit Journal, this competition is for students under the age of 20. They offer categories for prose and poetry and prioritize works that show emotional depth and insight.

Participating in these contests can not only be a fun challenge but would definitely distinguish you in your college applications. Remember, regardless of whether you win or not, entering such competitions does speak about your passion and commitment to writing. Also, be sure to stick to the submission guidelines of each contest, as they may have very specific instructions regarding the format, content, or theme. Good luck with your writing endeavors! You might find that through these competitions, you meet like-minded peers, discover new writing styles, and grow as a writer.
