Top schools for pre-med in Texas?

Hey all! I'm a high school junior starting to think about my college list, and I'm really interested in pre-med. I live in Texas, so I'm hoping to stay in-state for undergrad. Does anyone have recommendations for the best schools in Texas for pre-med?

I'm looking for programs with good advising for med school applications and maybe strong research opportunities. Any personal experiences or insight into what makes certain Texas schools stand out for pre-med students would be awesome!

Sure thing! There are quite a few excellent options in Texas for aspiring pre-med students. Let's talk about a few standouts:

University of Texas (UT) at Austin: Particularly recognized for its research opportunities and faculty, UT Austin can offer a very robust pre-med experience. Their Bridging Disciplines Program in public health is a great feature for pre-med students.

Baylor University: Baylor has a highly reputable pre-health program that includes numerous resources like medical mission trips, professional school applicant workshops, and shadowing programs.

Rice University: Rice is known for its strong natural science programs and its tight-knit community. Their strong advising system and residential college system can support you in your pre-med journey. Their location in Houston, home to the largest medical center in the world, provides unparalleled opportunities for clinical experience and research.

Texas A&M: Also touted for having a robust pre-med program with excellent advisement. They have affiliations with multiple in-state medical schools that allow for smooth admission for highly qualified students, which could be a significant advantage.

UT Dallas: The University’s pre-health professions team provides holistic advisement from the first day of classes through acceptance into a health professions school. Home to UT Southwestern Medical Center, which offers ample research and internship opportunities.

UT Southwestern: As a leading medical school, UT Southwestern has excellent resources and facilities for undergrad students interested in med school.

Each school has its own unique mix of opportunities. When researching, watch out for programs specially designed for pre-med students and opportunities for clinical experience or research. And lastly, consider factors like size, location, and campus culture to ensure that the school is a fit for your personal needs and preferences. Don't forget to check out each institution's course offerings in the sciences and associated student support services as well.

I hope this gives you a starting point for narrowing down your college list! It's awesome to see your dedication to pre-med. Good luck!
