How many colleges are in Georgia?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to get a handle on the number of colleges in Georgia because I'm considering applying to schools in that area. Does anyone know how many colleges and universities are in the state? I'm interested in both public and private institutions. It would be great to hear from anyone who has applied to schools in Georgia about their experiences too. Any tips on choosing the right college from the options available would be appreciated!

Hello! Georgia indeed has a substantial number of higher education institutions, both public and private. There are approximately 85-90 colleges and universities in Georgia.

This includes 26 public colleges in the University System of Georgia, like the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, and Georgia Southern University. The Technical College System of Georgia has 22 state colleges.

Private institutions are also numerous, including very respected ones like Emory University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Mercer University. There are also more focused schools like the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

An excellent way to choose from the many options available is to prioritize what you want in a school: size, location, available majors, campus culture, athletics, research or internship opportunities, and financial aid availability. Every student's priorities are different - you might want a large, research-intensive institution, or you might prefer a small, liberal arts college. What's important is finding an institution that aligns with your academic and personal goals.

Also, try to visit the ones that interest you if possible, either in-person (if it's safe to do so) or virtually. This could give you a better feel for the campus environment and resources, which could help you decide. Keep in mind application requirements, deadlines, and potential entry requirements for the programs you're interested in to ensure you're a strong fit.

And remember, while it's good to have some 'reach' schools in your application list, also apply to 'match' and 'safety' schools to increase your chances of being accepted somewhere you'd be happy to attend. Good luck in your college search!
