What are the transfer admission requirements for University of Oregon?

I'm considering transferring to the University of Oregon and I'm trying to get a handle on what their transfer admission requirements are. Does anyone know what kind of GPA or specific prerequisites they look for? Also, I'd love to hear about the overall application experience and any tips on making a strong application. I'm specifically interested in their environmental sciences program, so any additional info on that would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

To transfer to the University of Oregon (UO), there are specific requirements you'll need to meet. While UO doesn't state a minimum GPA requirement for transfer students, typically demonstrating high academic performance is necessary. It's advisable to aim for a GPA above 3.0 for a strong application, although they do consider a transfer student’s complete academic record.

In terms of prerequisites, you're generally required to have at least 36 transferable quarter (24 semester) credits completed by the time of your admission. However, if you have fewer, you might be considered for admission if you meet the requirements for freshman admission.

In your application, apart from submitting official transcripts from all colleges or universities you've attended, you also need to provide a statement explaining your reasons for transferring and your academic objectives. This is the place where you can tell your story in depth to provide context about your academic performance or your previous school's offerings versus UO's offerings, specifically in Environmental Science. You can talk about why UO's Environmental Science program aligns with your career goals or personal interests. You can discuss the specific classes, professors, research opportunities, or student organizations that appeal to you at UO.

Lastly, letters of recommendation are not required but could be submitted optionally. If you have a professor or employer who can vouch for your academic or professional abilities, submitting a recommendation could strengthen your application.

Remember this process is not only about meeting the basic requirements, your application should also convey your genuine interest in UO and how you envision yourself thriving there. Good luck with your application!
