Looking into Colleges Near Portland

As a junior starting college tours soon, I'm curious about colleges close to Portland, Oregon. I've heard about the unique culture and environment there and wonder how it influences campus life. Are there any schools that are particularly known for environmental science or liberal arts? Also, how accessible is the city itself from these colleges?

Certainly, Portland offers a unique environment that heavily influences nearby campuses. Some of the notable colleges around Portland include Reed College, Lewis & Clark College, and University of Portland.

Reed College, located in Southeast Portland, is known for its rigorous academic program and strong emphasis on the liberal arts. Reed's Environmental Studies program is particularly noteworthy and allows students to engage in interdisciplinary study.

Lewis & Clark College, located roughly six miles from downtown, is another liberal arts college well-known for its Environmental Studies program. The campus itself is situated in a forested area, offering students a natural environment in which to study and explore.

The University of Portland, a private Catholic university located on a bluff overlooking the Willamette River, offers diverse majors including Environmental Science and Environmental Ethics.

As for accessibility, each of these colleges has its own resources and transit options. Reed has a free shuttle that runs to the nearby light rail station, which can get you downtown in about 20 minutes. Lewis & Clark offers a free shuttle service to downtown as well. University of Portland is less than 15 minutes drive from downtown, and students can make use of public transportation like buses and light rail.

It's important to remember that every college has its own distinct culture, so I recommend visiting and touring to get a feel for the environment that best suits you.
