What's unique about Hartwick College majors?

I've been exploring different schools and Hartwick College has caught my eye, but I don't know much about their majors. I'm leaning towards something in the arts or humanities, but I'm still undecided about my exact path.

Are there any standout programs at Hartwick or opportunities for interdisciplinary studies? I want to make sure they have strong support for students who might want to explore multiple interests. Any nuggets of wisdom from those familiar with the college would be awesome!

Hartwick College, located in Oneonta, New York, has an eclectic array of majors and definitely lives up to its reputation for pushing the boundaries of typical academic fields. It's recognized for providing a quality education across the spectrum, including the arts and humanities.

Their English, Art, and Theater arts programs have a reputation for deep discipline knowledge and fostering creativity. In particular, their Theater Arts program regularly involves students in theatrical productions, providing hands-on experience from freshman year. Similarly, Art students often have their works displayed in the Foreman Gallery, facilitating real-world representational experience.

For students interested in exploring multiple areas of interest, the school also shines in its emphasis on interdisciplinary studies. Hartwick's Individual Student Program allows you to design your own major which can incorporate different disciplines, under the mentorship of a faculty guidance committee. This option can provide a uniquely tailored educational experience and depth of understanding across multiple fields.

Another standout feature about Hartwick is its January Term or "J Term". It's essentially a month-long semester in which students can take unique courses, study abroad, or participate in internships. This is a wonderful chance to explore areas outside one's primary academic focus and gain hands-on experience.

Lastly, don't forget the Three-Year Bachelor’s Degree program! It's designed for motivated students who wish to save on tuition. It's certainly ambitious but versatile, as it allows you to complete the same requirements as a four-year degree across all majors.

As is the case with any college, though, remember to take virtual tours, talk to current students or alumni, and continue your research to ensure it's a good fit for you. Good luck with your search!
