Is test-optional a common policy among HBCU colleges?

Starting to feel the pressure here with my SAT scores... Do most HBCUs have test-optional admissions policies?

I understand the stress that SAT scores can bring, but there's some good news on that front. Many HBCUs embraced test-optional admissions policies during the pandemic, and most have kept those policies in place for at least the foreseeable future. Do keep in mind, however, that these policies may vary by institution and can change from one year to the next, so you'd be well served to check the specific admissions criteria for each HBCU you're considering, to see if there are any that are recommending tests, even if they aren't requiring them, for example.

If you can’t find the information easily on their website, don’t hesitate to reach out to their admissions office directly. They’re usually more than happy to help prospective students. Remember, if you decide not to submit test scores, other factors like your high school GPA, the rigor of your coursework, your personal essays, and extracurricular activities will become even more important in demonstrating your abilities and fit for the college.

Best of luck with your applications!
