What's the Housing Experience Like at Fresno State?

I'm considering attending Fresno State and would love to know more about the housing options there. As someone who's hoping to live on campus freshman year, I want to get a sense of what the dorms are like. Are there any particular halls I should be looking into or maybe avoiding? How's the social scene in the dorms, and do students generally enjoy living on campus? Any tips on how to ensure I get a good spot or what the application process is like would be appreciated!

As a student choosing to live on campus, Fresno State has several options for you. The living arrangements range from traditional dormitory-style halls like Graves or Homan Hall with shared common bathrooms and a communal area to suite-style living where you get a private/shared bedroom and a shared in-suite bathroom.

In terms of the social aspect, living on campus can be quite engaging. Given the myriad of events such as the ice cream socials, pizza nights, movie nights, and even educational programs, dorm life at Fresno State is generally vibrant and fosters a healthy sense of community. Joining the Residential Hall Association (RHA) can be a great way to further involve yourself in the residential community.

As for acquiring a housing spot, the housing application is typically released in early spring (around February). I'd advise you to apply as early as possible to have the best chance at snagging your preferred housing type. The application is fairly straightforward, although you should be aware of the $50 non-refundable fee, and $150 security deposit.

When picking a spot, consider factors such as the proximity to classes, communal areas for social events, and quietness for studying. Your experience will greatly depend on your personal preferences and housing assignment, but overall most students have reported a positive experience living on campus at Fresno State, due to having a support network so close.

I hope you find this overview helpful!
