KU International Students Community

I'm currently a high school junior exploring my college options, and I'm really interested in the University of Kansas (KU). I'm curious about the international student community there. How welcoming is it for students from different countries? Are there any specific support programs or activities that help international students adjust? I'm hoping to study in a diverse and inclusive environment, so any insights would be appreciated!

The University of Kansas (KU) is recognized for its robust international presence and commitment to creating an inclusive, global learning community. The Office of International Affairs at KU provides numerous resources for international students to ease the transition and ensure an enriching college experience.

First off, there's the International Student Services (ISS), which is dedicated to helping international students with everything ranging from visa counseling to academic advising, and hosts a variety of events throughout the year. These include cultural exchange activities, global food events, and academic workshops tailored to the unique needs of international students.

Furthermore, KU's International Student Orientation program is specifically designed for newly admitted international students and is an excellent opportunity for you to learn about KU’s resources, meet other international students, and get acquainted with the campus before classes start.

KU also has more than 600 student organizations, and you're sure to find a host of international groups or country-specific clubs where you can connect with students from diverse backgrounds. These organizations often hold events and cultural festivals and can be an important support network for new students.

From an academic standpoint, the Applied English Center (AEC) provides English-language coursework for non-native speakers to ensure that all students have the tools to succeed in their classes and beyond.

In essence, KU's international student community is very welcoming, proactive, and diverse. The university has made a considerable effort to ensure that students from different countries feel supported and included.
