What's UIC's Biomedical Engineering program reputation like?

I’m looking into UIC's biomedical engineering program and I’d appreciate it if someone could fill me in on its general reputation. How do the facilities and resources compare with other schools? Are there strong ties to local hospitals or companies for internships? Any info on how supportive the professors are would also be great!

UIC, or the University of Illinois at Chicago, has a decent reputation when it comes to their Biomedical Engineering (BME) program. They offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and the curricula focus on the fundamentals of biomedical engineering, while offering enough flexibility for students to explore various sub-areas in the field.

Regarding facilities, they have several research laboratories dedicated to biomedical engineering which house state-of-the-art equipment. These labs provide various research opportunities for students who are interested in going beyond classroom learning.

One of UIC’s key strengths lies in its location, since it is nestled in a biotech and health sciences hub, providing easy access to numerous internship and co-op opportunities. They indeed have strong ties with local hospitals and medical device companies, giving students ample practical exposure and helping them gain real-world work experiences.

As for faculty support, generally, professors are known to be responsive and accessible. They are actively engaged in various research areas of biomedical engineering, which could provide students with opportunities to participate in these research projects. However, like with any large university, student experiences with professors could vary.

Finally, a quick note: Make sure you also look into factors such as class size, student supports, job placement rates, and further education rates, as these will also impact your educational experience.
