How diverse is the student body at the University of Wisconsin?

As I'm looking into potential colleges, diversity is really important to me. I'm considering the University of Wisconsin, but I'm not sure how diverse the campus actually is. Does anyone have statistics or personal insights about the diversity there, in terms of race, ethnicity, international students, and any other factors? Also, how does the university foster an inclusive community? I'd like to know about any specific organizations or initiatives that help promote diversity on campus.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a school that values diversity and inclusivity. According to the 2021-2022 statistics, the undergraduate student body is 60% White, 9% Asian, 7% Hispanic or Latino, 2.5% Black or African American, 0.2% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, 0.1% American Indian or Alaska Native, and about 4% are Two or More Races. Additionally, about 15% of the student body are international students.

To foster inclusivity, the university has several initiatives in place. One is the Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement (DDEEA) which offers a host of programs and resources to not only recruit but also support students from diverse backgrounds.

Another initiative is the Multicultural Student Center, which promotes an inclusive campus community by offering social, cultural, and educational programming. It also hosts various student organizations focused on particular cultural or ethnic groups.

Furthermore, the university offers multiple learning communities such as Chadbourne Residential College and the International Learning Community, where students from diverse backgrounds can live and learn together.

Finally, there's the Pathways to Educational Achievement (Idea-AC) that helps underrepresented students transition into college and maximize their college experience.

Keep in mind, you can always reach out to the university directly to get more detailed or updated information. It's important to know that different students may have unique experiences dependent on various factors, so it can be beneficial hearing from current students or alumni as well.
