How is the NC State Biology program for undergrads?

I'm currently a high school junior considering majoring in biology in college. I've heard good things about North Carolina State University's biology program, and I'm curious to learn more. Does anyone have firsthand experience with their biology classes or faculty? Also, how's the campus life there for biology majors? I'd love to hear about research opportunities too. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

North Carolina State University (NC State) has a noteworthy Biology program that puts emphasis on scientific rigor, along with great flexibility in the course selection, offering students an opportunity to delve into areas of their interest.

Right from the first year, the program emphasizes learning about modern biological principles, incorporating cellular and molecular biology, genetics, evolution, organisms, and ecology. Upperclassmen focus on specialized areas, with options such as genetics, microbiology, or plant biology, to name a few. Another benefit of the biology program at NC State is its manageable class sizes, providing students with valuable individualized support from knowledgeable faculty.

In terms of faculty, many of them are actively involved in cutting-edge research. Speaking of research, NC State provides numerous avenues for undergraduates to participate in research projects. This is through programs like the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) that connects students with faculty-led research opportunities.

As for campus life, there's a strong sense of comradery among biology majors. Many students also opt to join clubs and organizations related to their major, such as the Biology Club, or scientific interest, like the Genetics and Genomics Club, which allows students to connect with like-minded peers, network with professionals in the field, and participate in biology-related discussions and events.

For potential graduate study, career plans, or just personal growth, the abundance of research and real-world experience obtained at NC State could be a strong selling point. All these aspects make NC State's biology program quite competitive and well-rounded, aiding not only academic growth but also providing ample opportunities for personal and social development.
