How is the Redstone Campus at UVM?

I'm considering the University of Vermont and I've heard a bit about the Redstone Campus. Can anyone share what the living situation is like there? How are the dorms, and is the location convenient relative to classes and other facilities? I'm curious about whether it's a good choice as a freshman and what the community is like.

Redstone Campus is one of the three residential areas at the University of Vermont and it's known for its strong sense of community and historic architecture. The dorms largely consist of traditional-style rooms which typically means two students per room, shared community bathrooms on each floor, and communal kitchens. Several of the buildings, such as Richardson, Coolidge, Morrill, and University Heights South have gone through renovations over the years, and they tend to have larger rooms than some other dorms on campus which can be a plus.

In terms of location, it's on a hill, and about a 10-15 minute walk from the Central and Athletic campuses. While it might be a bit farther away from the academic buildings compared to the halls on the Central Campus, it's still within manageable walking distance. The main campus library, Bailey-Howe, is about a 15-minute walk away, and the Athletic Campus is even closer, which can be a perk if you're planning on participating in sports or using the fitness facilities.

The social scene at Redstone is often described as vibrant and inclusive, with regular residence hall activities and events sponsored by the Redstone Residential Life Office to foster a sense of community and help students get to know each other. The close-knit nature of the community often gives residents the chance to get to know other students from different backgrounds and fields of study.

As a freshman, living on Redstone Campus will offer you a chance to be part of a supportive community, within a location that provides a slight separation from the hustle and bustle of the main campus, while still being close enough to comfortably access academic and recreational facilities.

In the end, the choice between Redstone and other residential areas will depend on your personal preference. Are you someone who values the vintage appeal of historic architecture and the tight-knit feeling of a somewhat separate campus or do you value proximity to classrooms and buildings on central campus? Reflecting on these aspects might help you decide on your first choice.
