What are the Biola University dorms like for incoming freshmen?

I'm starting to think about where I'd like to apply for college, and Biola University is on my list. One important thing for me is on-campus housing and being able to connect with people. Can anyone share what the dorm experience is like at Biola University, especially for incoming freshmen? Are the dorms nice and modern, or are they more traditional? I'm curious about the social vibe too—are there lots of activities and opportunities to make friends? Any insights would be super helpful!

Biola University offers a residential community environment that many students find welcoming and conducive to forming friendships. There are nine residence halls available for students, four of which are typically designated for freshmen: Alpha, Sigma, Horton, and Stewart.

The dorms represent a mix of traditional and contemporary feels due to periodic updates and refurbishments over the years. Some might consider the freshman residences, such as Alpha and Sigma, to be more on the traditional side with standard features like twin beds, desks, closets, and community bathrooms on each floor.

The social vibe is generally robust, supported by a strong community approach to dorm living. Each dorm has its own Resident Advisors and Spiritual Life Advisors who plan out various activities and events for students living there such as study groups, hall meetings, collaborations with other dorms (like the "sister dorm" tradition), and more. This gives you plenty of opportunities for campus involvement and friend-making right from your own living space, which can be a rather comforting introduction to college life.

It's worth noting that Biola's approach to residential life supports its faith-based mission, so many of these activities and aspects of dorm life have some spiritual emphasis or connection. Nevertheless, regardless of your personal faith, you would likely find the community welcoming and inclusive, with many chances to forge lasting friendships and connections.

Nevertheless, it's always a good idea to take a campus tour if possible, which would provide additional insights into dorm life and the overall vibe at the university. This could further aid in your decision-making and ensure your college journey aligns well with your expectations.
