I'm thinking about transferring to CSUN next year and want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. Do any current or past students know what the transfer requirements are for California State University Northridge?
I know some universities have specific course requirements or minimum GPAs, and I really want to ensure I meet all the criteria. Also, if there are any tips for a successful transfer application, I'd be grateful for the advice!
California State University Northridge (CSUN) has established clear requirements for transfer students.
Firstly, you need to have completed at least 60 CSU-transferable semester units (90 quarter units) by the time of your enrollment.
A significant part of these transferrable units should include general education (GE) courses which can be mapped to the CSU GE Breadth or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) framework. Be sure to have completed the 'Golden Four' which involves:
- Oral Communication (typically a speech or communication course)
- Written Communication (generally covered by a freshman English course)
- Critical Thinking (can be covered by courses in English, philosophy, or logic)
- Quantitative Reasoning (typically a college-level math course)
These basic GE courses should be completed with a grade of C- or better.
Concerning GPA, the minimum required for transfer is 2.0 if you are a California resident.
Once all these requirements are in place, you'll need to submit your application through the CSUMentor website. The application periods are usually October 1 to January 31 for fall admission, and August 1 to August 30 for spring admission.
Your application should ideally highlight your academic achievements and your engagement beyond the classroom, as well as your aspirations and how CSUN can help you achieve these goals. An accurate and comprehensive course description is important to avoid delays in the admission process.
Last but not least, keep in mind to send your final transcripts once they're available to finalize your admission.
Best of luck with your transfer application!
