What are some colleges near Fort Worth that are great for undergraduates?

I'm a high school junior and I'm beginning to look at college options. I'm particularly interested in staying around the Fort Worth area for college. I've heard of a few schools like TCU, but I'm eager to know about other colleges that might not be as well-known.

What kinds of programs do they offer and what is student life like there? Any recommendations on schools that provide a really good undergraduate experience would be super helpful. Also, if anyone has tips on interesting things to do around these campuses, I'd appreciate it!

You're certainly in a good place to start looking around! Fort Worth and the nearby areas are home to several colleges that provide a broad range of undergraduate programs. Here are a few to look into, beyond the well-known Texas Christian University (TCU):

1. University of Texas at Arlington (UTA): Located between Fort Worth and Dallas, UTA is a public research university known for its high-quality programs in nursing, engineering, and business, among others. On-campus students enjoy access to a rich variety of student organizations, sports, and a vibrant arts scene.

2. Southern Methodist University (SMU): Situated in Dallas, about a 40-minute drive from Fort Worth, SMU is known for its Business and Engineering programs. The school is located near downtown Dallas, which offers a variety of art, history, and science museums, as well as restaurants and shops for students to explore.

3. University of Dallas: A small Catholic liberal arts university located in Irving. The university offers more than 50 undergraduate majors with a strong emphasis on the classical curriculum (literature, philosophy, science, history, and theology). The campus is close to the Dallas Museum of Art, Old Town shopping, and countless other local attractions.

4. University of North Texas (UNT): Just a bit north of Fort Worth in Denton. Known for its music programs, particularly in jazz studies, UNT offers a wide range of undergraduate degrees. Student life revolves around a mix of arts, athletics, and many student organizations. The city of Denton also provides a hospitable small-town vibe with its own vibrant arts and music scene.

5. Texas Woman's University (TWU): Also located in Denton, TWU offers over a hundred undergraduate degrees and has strong programs in nursing, health sciences, and education. Despite its name, the university is coeducational and offers a supportive and diverse environment for all its students.

6. University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMH-B): A Christian university located in Belton, about 2 hours south of Fort Worth, UMH-B has robust programs in Nursing, Psychology, and Business. Its campus is close to recreational spots like Bell County Museum and Summer Fun Water Park.

It's great that you're open to exploring a diverse range of colleges. Now, to really get a feel for student life and local attractions, I recommend arranging college visits if you can, or considering virtual campus tours. Be sure to take advantage of each school's resources for prospective students. Best of luck with your college search!
