When is college commitment day for 2024?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior getting ready to start the college application process. I've heard about something called college commitment day, but I'm confused about when it actually is for 2024. Is it the same date for everyone? How strict is this deadline, and what happens if you miss it? Just trying to plan ahead!

College Commitment Day, also known as National Decision Day, is traditionally set for May 1 every year. This is the day by which most schools require admitted students to make their final decisions and submit deposits to secure their spot in the incoming freshman class. This date is fairly universal across U.S colleges and universities.

The deadline is rather strict. Missing it could result in you losing your spot to a student on the waitlist, so it's highly recommended to follow this deadline. However, some colleges may extend the deadline, especially if spots in the incoming class haven't been filled, and in these cases the college will notify accepted students directly about the extension.

Remember that May 1 is also an important day to consider for financial aid purposes. You'll need to have compared all of your financial aid packages and made a decision about which is best for your family's financial situation before you commit to a school.

While this can be a stressful time, it's also very exciting and a huge step in your academic journey. Best of luck with your college application process!
