Calculating GPA for WSU applications

I’m trying to apply to Washington State University, but I’m having a hard time figuring out how to calculate my GPA based on their system. Does anyone know if there’s a specific GPA calculator or formula we should be using for WSU? I want to make sure I'm accurately calculating it before I submit my application. Any advice or tool recommendations would be awesome!

I understand trying to accurately calculate your GPA for a particular college's specific system can be quite a feat. For Washington State University (WSU), you're looking at a rather straightforward process.

WSU uses a standard 4.0 scale in considering GPA strictly from college preparatory coursework completed so far. This would mainly be composed of classes roughly equal to the rigor of AP, IB, or similar courses. In this system:

- An 'A' grade is given 4 points,

- A 'B' is worth 3 points,

- A 'C' garners 2 points,

- A 'D' reaps 1 point,

- And an 'F', unfortunately, doesn't earn any points.

To calculate your GPA, you'd add up all the grade points you've acquired from those courses, and then divide them by the total number of courses. There is no significant distinction for plus or minus (+/-) grades in most cases.

Remember, you should only be counting courses taken after the 8th grade even if you took high school classes while in junior high. Although WSU doesn't have a specific GPA calculator on their website, there are plenty of free online GPA calculators you can find by doing a quick search. However, remember to verify if the calculator aligns with the grading scale used by WSU.

It's also worth mentioning that although GPA is a significant factor in college admissions, it's not the only one. WSU considers other factors as well, such as extracurricular involvement, volunteer or work experience, and your statement.

Best of luck with your application!
