What are the transfer requirements for Long Beach State University?

I'm considering transferring to Long Beach State University and I'm trying to figure out what the transfer requirements are. I've been attending a community college for two years now and I want to make sure I'm on the right track to be accepted. I know that different universities have various GPA requirements and specific courses that need to be completed, so any detailed information on Long Beach State would be super helpful.

Also, if there are any tips from current students or recent transfer students about the application process or what they wish they had known beforehand, I'd love to hear them! Thanks in advance for any advice or resources you could share.

Your decision to transfer to Long Beach State University sounds very exciting. Being informed about the specific requirements will smooth out your application process.

Long Beach State University, like many universities in the California State University (CSU) system, has certain eligibility requirements for transfer students. For upper division transfer students, those who have completed at least 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units), the general transfer requirements are as follows:

1. Good standing at the last college or university attended.

2. A minimum 2.00 GPA in all transferable units attempted. GPA requirements can be higher for some majors, so it's a good idea to check the specifics of your intended program on the university's website.

3. Completion of the “golden four” requirements with a grade of "C-" or better. The golden four requirements refer to the following: Oral Communication (a semi-intensive course), Written Communication (a semi-intensive course), Critical Thinking (a Logic or Argumentation course), and Math/Quantitative Reasoning (college-level math, beyond intermediate algebra).

Do note that admission priority is given to students who have completed an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in a similar major, have completed their general education requirements, or are veterans or currently serving in the U.S. military.

For the application process, you will be using the Cal State Apply website, where you'd fill out your academic history, and activities, and submit all the required documents. The application filing period for Fall admission typically starts in October and ends in December.

In terms of advice, consider talking directly to an admission advisor at Long Beach State. They would likely be able to give you some insights specifically tailored to your situation. Just remember, every student's experience is unique and sometimes the application process might not go as anticipated, but persistence and perseverance usually get rewarded.

Good luck with your goal to transfer, and feel free to ask if you have more questions!
