What are the transfer requirements for Florida International University?

I'm considering transferring to Florida International University and I'm trying to figure out all the requirements. Does anyone know what the GPA requirements are and whether they require any specific courses or credits before transferring? Also, it would be helpful to know if there are any particular documents or application materials they emphasize. Any advice on how to make my application stand out would be greatly appreciated!

Florida International University (FIU) admits transfer students in both Fall and Spring semesters and there are a few requirements you'll need to meet for a successful transfer application.

First, FIU generally requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all college-level coursework for students transferring from Florida public and private institutions. For out-of-state institutions, the minimum GPA is slightly higher, at 2.5.

As for courses, you are eligible to apply for transfer if you have earned an Associate in Arts (AA) degree from an accredited institution in Florida, or if you have completed the 36 credit hours of general education requirements with a minimum of 2.0 GPA at any other regionally accredited institution. Non-Florida or out-of-state applicants will have to meet the above criteria along with core course completion that includes English Composition and Mathematics or Quantitative Reasoning.

In terms of application materials, you'll need to submit an online application through FIU's application portal, including your personal statement and activity list. Unofficial transcripts from all previously attended institutions are required initially, but official transcripts must be submitted within 30 days of applying.

Lastly, to make your application stand out, I suggest emphasizing your academic progress throughout your years in college, showcasing any upward trends in grades. Discuss any extracurricular involvements, internships, or work experiences that have shaped your academic and career aspirations. Also, don't underestimate the power of a well-written personal statement. Tell a compelling personal story and clearly articulate why you want to transfer to FIU specifically – what about this university fits with your plans and interests. Showing a clear and well-researched understanding of what FIU offers can make your application more persuasive.
