How Can I Apply for the Hy-Vee Scholarship?

I recently heard about the Hy-Vee Scholarship, and I'm thinking of applying to help with college expenses. Does anyone know the eligibility criteria and application process for this scholarship? I'm a high school junior, so I'd appreciate any tips or advice on how to improve my chances of getting it. Also, if anyone has gone through the application process, what was your experience like? Any insider advice on what to highlight would be amazing!

The Hy-Vee Scholarship is primarily intended for employees, or their children, who've been affiliated with Hy-Vee for at least six months before the application deadline. So if either you or your parent works for Hy-Vee, you can apply for this scholarship.

To be eligible, you're expected to be a high school senior (graduating in spring) or a college freshman and continuing in college for the upcoming academic year at an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. The recipient is selected based on their academic record, leadership qualities, and demonstration of Hy-Vee’s core values (helpful, dedicated and ambitious).

Every year, the Hy-Vee foundation awards over 80 scholarships worth $1,000 each to college-bound seniors, both at the high school and college level. The application usually begins in late fall and extends till February. The exact dates could vary each year though.

The application process typically includes filling out an application form that includes personal information, a records release form for the school to send your transcripts directly to Hy-Vee, and writing an essay highlighting your leadership qualities, ambition and how you embody the values of Hy-Vee in daily life.

To increase your chances, focus on your experience with Hy-Vee (if applicable), your academic achievements, community service, leadership roles, and how you've demonstrated the core values of Hy-Vee in your everyday life. Give examples of how you've proven these qualities in school or in your community.

Remember in scholarships, they're not just looking for the highest GPA, but for a well-rounded individual who is involved in their community and embodies the values of the scholarship provider. Good luck!
