Seeking colleges with cosmetology majors

I'm super interested in pursuing cosmetology after high school, and I'm starting to look for colleges that have cosmetology programs. I know that not all colleges offer this as a major, so if anyone can point me to schools with cosmetology majors or strong related programs, that would be amazing. Any other tips on what to look for in a school offering this program would also be helpful!

Certainly! It's correct that cosmetology at the bachelor's level isn't offered at all institutions but several schools do have strong related programs. Here are a handful I'd recommend considering:

1. Aveda Institute: Aveda has locations all over the U.S. and is well-regarded for their focus on natural products and holistic wellness, along with their commitment to environmental leadership.

2. University of the Arts, London: If you're open to studying abroad, this University has a hair, makeup, and prosthetics for performance degree that's quite unique - you'll dive into not just cosmetology but also theatre, film, and TV work.

3. Paul Mitchell Schools: Known for their strong focus on hair styling and coloring, Paul Mitchell also covers other areas of cosmetology and has schools all over the country.

4. Empire Beauty Schools: These schools offer programs in cosmetology, esthetics (skin care), and makeup artistry and have locations across the U.S.

Since you're looking for a comprehensive cosmetology program, you'll want to keep a few things in mind. A good program should cover a wide range of topics - not just hair, but also skincare, makeup, nail care, and possibly even business and salon management if you're considering running your own salon one day. Look for schools with hands-on training, possibly those with an on-site salon where students can practice their skills on real clients.

Also, consider the reputation and job placement rate of the school. Do graduates typically find good jobs in their field shortly after graduation? You might also look at the kind of student support the school provides like career counseling, job placement assistance, or financial aid.

It's also important to remember that after completing their education, cosmetologists are typically required to obtain a license to practice, so choose a recognized and accredited program that will adequately prepare you for your state's licensing requirements.
